Cougars loan Moberg to the Spruce Kings

The Prince George Spruce Kings suffered a big blow over the weekend as 20-year-old defenceman Tanner Main suffered a fractured fibula.

He is expected to miss the next 12 weeks.

As a result, they had a roster spot to fill on their blue line.

Tuesday morning the Kings announced they have found someone to fill that spot for the next month as Cougars’ 20-year-old defenceman Cole Moberg has officially been loaned to the club.

Moberg is a 7th round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks and is heading into his 4th and final season with the Prince George Cougars.

In 58 games last season with the Cats, Moberg had 13 goals and 24 assists and was 2nd in team scoring.

In a press release sent out by the Spruce Kings, General Manager Mike Hawes stated, “We are excited to add Cole Moberg to the lineup on loan from the Cougars until Dec 20th. This helps us fill the vacancy created by Tanner’s absence and adds a veteran, proven player to our team. Cole is a dynamic player who will provide a lot of ability, experience, and leadership to the group.”

Meanwhile, Head Coach and General Manager of the Prince George Cougars Mark Lamb told CKPG, he thinks it’s a great fit for both Moberg and the Kings.

“An opportunity arose for him. We have a couple of players there already. He’s familiar with the city. I think it’s going to be a really good fit.”

“When you get into game situations, practice situations and into team situations and a team setting you can’t create that just out skating or working out with your buddies or your teammates. I think this is a great opportunity for Cole.”

Moberg is set to practice with the Spruce Kings for the first time Wednesday afternoon and will suit up for the team in the pre-season finale Saturday night in Merritt against the Centennials.
