PRINCE GEORGE – Many of the mountain tops and valley bottoms have received a layer of snow forcing some backcountry enthusiasts to shift their mindset into winter mode.

As a result of that, Avalanche Canada is concerned during this pandemic more people will be heading for the hills without knowing the risk.

The snow started to fall and stay in October. For some, the snow was a calling to head for the backcountry and enjoy the winter wonderland.

Beginning next week Avalanche Canada will start sharing its seasonal avalanche information.

Even though the Avalanche Canada’s forecasts aren’t ready just yet they recommend backcountry enthusiasts get the proper training and safety information.

According to Prince George Search and Rescue, there are local providers that teach avalanche training courses.

“For those not familiar with the backcountry its best to join an outdoor club and learn the skill set from an experienced group.”
