Prince George teams ironing out next few weeks following new restrictions in BC

What’s next?

That’s what a bunch of sports teams in the City of Prince George are asking themselves following the new restrictions put in place by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry on Thursday.

For teams playing games in the City of Prince George against other local teams in the city, they can continue.

However, for the clubs who travel, they can not.

For example, the U16 Cariboo Cougars were supposed to play two games this weekend against the Thompson Blazers. They were cancelled. So were the games for the U18 Northern Capitals.

Now the organization is working on what they can provide for the teams over the course of the next two weeks, until the restrictions potentially get lifted on December 7.

“We’re going to have to be creative in our group,” shared Cariboo Hockey General Manager Trevor Sprague to CKPG.

“We have 6 teams. We are going to have to look at keeping up with our practices and training throughout the week. Then we have to look at what we can do on the weekends.”

For the Prince George Spruce Kings, the situation isn’t as clear.

The league put out a statement Thursday evening.

The league was supposed to begin their 2020-2021 regular season on December 4.

The King’s final exhibition game in Merritt against the Centennials originally scheduled for Saturday was cancelled.

No new details from the league have been released at the time of writing this article.
