Emergency public alert system planned for today
Nov 25, 2020 | 8:01 AM
OTTAWA — A test of the emergency public alert system will be broadcast in most provinces and territories today.
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission says the message sent to television, radio, and mobile devices is aimed at checking the reliability of the system.
Such tests have not always gone according to plan. The emergency alerts didn’t sound at all in Quebec when testing first began in 2018, and many wireless subscribers in Ontario also didn’t receive it.
In British Columbia, the test will be at 1:55 p.m.
