PRINCE GEORGE – BC broke more COVID-19 records on Friday, and the province topped 30,000 cases since the start of the pandemic.

There are 911 new cases of COVID-19 in BC, and 35 new cases of the virus in Northern Health.

11 more people have died from complications related to the virus.

301 people remain in hospital provincially, 69 patients are in intensive care.

“Right now in BC, as around the world we are seeing a much higher level of community transmission,” says Dr. Bonnie Henry, BC Provincial Health Officer. “This is much different than what we have seen in the summer and in the fall.”

Dr. Henry says that there are areas that were safe before, but are not safe now with the amount of community transmission occurring.

BC Health Officials noted that social gatherings and religious gatherings need to stay paused until the surge in COVID-19 cases ends.

Holiday shopping is an area where Dr. Bonnie Henry says she is concerned about transmission.

“Support local businesses who need our support,” says Dr. Henry. “Please remember that we need to stick with our immediate household right now”

Health officials say that if you do not want to wear a mask, you should shop online, and order take-out.
