Prince George Salvation Army feeling the effects of COVID-19

PRINCE GEORGE — The COVID-19 pandemic is having a major impact on non-profit organizations, including the local Salvation Army.

And it comes at a time when the demand for their services has never been greater.

Major Neil Wilkinson of the Prince George Salvation Army says 180 extra clients have signed up for their services this holiday season.

“I think it’s a challenging year for everybody. And I want to acknowledge that at the very beginning. And that challenge for everybody is rolling over into the charities in Prince George. And the Salvation Army is feeling that pinch as well.”

He says a lot of it has been brought about due to the economic effects of the pandemic, and also because fewer volunteers have stepped forward over COVID concerns.

Wilkinson says the goal this year is to raise $250,000 and notes they’re already slightly behind last year’s pace when they raised $190,000.

He says the $25,000 donation made by the Canadian Vocational Training Centre this week will go a long ways towards helping them reach their goal.

Wilkinson says you can help too by donating online at www.sapg.ca.
