B.C. sees deadliest day of COVID-19 on record

PRINCE GEORGE – A grim reminder of the severity of COVID-19, as a single-day record of deaths related to the virus, is shattered.

BC Health Officials announced Thursday afternoon that 28 more people have died due to complications with COVID-19, a total of 587 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Northern Health has counted 40 more cases of the virus, as active cases provincially are at 9,524, an increase of over 200 since Wednesday.

Provincially, there have been 723 new cases of COVID-19, with 346 people currently in hospital, 83 people are in critical care.

None of the deaths announced Thursday by BC Health Officials are within the Northern Health region.

  • 15 deaths in Vancouver Coastal Health
  • 12 deaths in Fraser Health
  • 1 death in Vancouver Island Health

BC Minister of Health, Adrian Dix says 26 of the 28 people who died were in long-term care.

BC has also crossed over the 40,000 mark in COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
