RED DEER, Alta. – Following the release of two goalies from Canada’s National Junior Team camp, Prince George Cougars’ Taylor Gauthier finds himself as one of three goalies Team Canada has still on their roster.

Traditionally, Canada has always taken three goalies to the tournament with the team typically cycling with two through the round robin.

Gauthier is no stranger to Hockey Canada, having represented the Red and White most recently with the Under-19 program. Prior to that, he won a Gold Medal while playing at the 2018 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup.

“We’re very proud,” said General Manager and Head Coach Mark Lamb. “Any junior hockey player that plays across Canada, that’s their goal to play for the World Juniors, play for your country. He’s been in Hockey Canada quite a bit so they know him very well.”

Lamb believes the World Juniors is a great stepping stone for any player to move to the next level.

“It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon,” the Cats’ coach says. “He’s gone through some down times. He’s always been highly touted and this is just a great stepping stone for him.”

Hockey Canada announced Thursday morning a list of seven players being released from Canada’s National Junior Team. Forwards Adam, Beckman, Tyson Foerster, Hendrix Lapierre, Cole Schwindt and Shane Wright, and goaltenders Brett Brochu and Tristan Lennox were those released.

The selection camp will wrap up on December 13 with the roster currently sitting at 34 players.
