COVID-19 continues to batter YXS

Dec 15, 2020 | 12:35 PM

PRINCE GEORGE — The number of passengers through the gates at Prince George Airport continue to be much lower than last year due to COVID-19.

YXS has confirmed that the airport saw just over 11,500 passengers in November, a drop of 71 per cent compared to the same month last year.

Numbers for October were slightly higher at over 12,800, however the percentage drop was the same at 71 per cent over October 2019.

The airport says they’re unsure of what numbers will be like this month due to the travel advisory issued by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry recommending non-essential travel be avoided.

For those flying for essential purposes over the holidays, the airport has complied a list of tips to make your travel day less stressful:

  • Check the weather conditions in PG and at connecting airports and destinations, as poor conditions can significantly impact flight schedules.
  • Check your airline’s website for the most up to date flight information.
  • Check your airline’s website for baggage size, weight restrictions and costs associated with checking your bags.
  • Place identification in both the inside and outside of your baggage. Be sure to check your bags to ensure prohibited items are not present. For more information visit the “Pack Smart” section of CATSA’s website (http://www.catsa.gc.ca/whatcanIbring)
  • If you’re travelling with gifts, leave them unwrapped. They may be opened by Screening Officials for inspection.
  • To minimize the risk of damage or loss, don’t pack fragile or valuable items in checked baggage. Take them with you in carry-on baggage, or ship them to your destination instead.
  • If you are given the option, check in online; it will save you time. Most airlines offer this service 24 hours before the departure time of the flight.

The airport adds that it looks forward to 2021 with a vaccine on the horizon.
