PRINCE GEORGE — Northern Health is reporting potential COVID-19 exposures to students and staff at D.P. Todd and College Heights Secondary Schools.

The potential exposure at D.P. Todd occurred on Dec. 1 and 2 and at College Heights Secondary School on Dec.10 and 11.

Northern Health says every school in B.C. has a COVID-19 safety plan in place and says the plan was “followed precisely” at both schools. Because of this, the health authority says the risk of additional cases is very low.

Exposure to a confirmed case does not mean you or your child will become sick with COVID-19 and the health authority says the virus has a very low infection rate in children.

Northern Health says public health staff follows up directly with anyone who is identified as a close contact of a lab confirmed case. A close contact is a person who has been in direct face-to-face contact for prolonged periods of time with an infectious case.

In a letter from each school to to parents, the schools confirm that this exposure alert is a general notice that someone has tested positive for COVID has been at school.

Both schools add that if you do not receive a phone call or letter, please continue to attend school and monitor for symptoms listed on the Daily Health Check for Students located on the school district website.
