PRINCE GEORGE – A small gesture has turned into a massive fundraiser for frontline workers in the city.

Owner of the Westwood Pub, Nathan Coole says he was inspired after he saw one of his former employees come in for take-out exhausted after working at UHNBC.

“We didn’t have any expectations to begin with,” says Coole. “but the community immediately stepped up, we were above 20 thousand dollars on the first day.”

The former worker was Sasha Watt, a recent graduate of UNBC’s Nursing program in March, immediately put into action on the frontlines of the pandemic.

“I am just so thankful for those who stepped up and contributed,” says Watt. “I remember when Nate first called me to tell me, and it almost brought tears to my eyes.”

Watt says she is thankful as the community came together once again and showed they are behind those working with COVID-19 patients.

“It’s given me a second wind,” says Watt.

Conditions at UHNBC are so busy Watt says she often works a 12-hour shift without a break.
