PRINCE GEORGE – It’s time to sharpen up those skates because the Prince George Outdoor Ice Oval is open, just in time for Christmas.

The Oval opened up to the public on Wednesday (Dec. 23).

With the situation pertaining to COVID-19 and the restrictions in place fluid, the Outdoor Oval Society is following Public Health orders and guidelines as best as they can, but urge the public who plans on attending the Oval to adhere to their rules in place.

Skaters should pay attention to the safety information provided on-site, and it is especially important that skaters keep to their immediate family groups with no social gatherings.

There are additional tables available this year for the skaters to put on or take off skates and shoes. Staff at the Oval have stated the Canfor House will be closed this season.

Some additional COVID-19 safety rules to follow when using the oval include:

  1. Keep your distance from others
  2. Keep to your immediate family group
  3. One family per table for changing, and when done please move your personal belongings off the table
  4. Surfaces are not sanitized
  5. Wash/sanitize your hands before and after skating
  6. Wear a mask in common areas (when putting on skates) until you begin skating

The oval is located behind the CN Centre and is ideal for both recreational skating and long-track speed skating.

You can access the oval with a $2 donation or $5 per family.
