Prince George seeing greenest Christmas in over 10 years

PRINCE GEORGE – Regions across the province have received massive dumps of snow recently, but Prince George has managed to miss all of it.

Environment Canada says Prince George and Quesnel are seeing the most unusual weather pattern throughout the entire province.

Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says this is the greenest Christmas Prince George has seen for at least the last 10 years.

“I have worked for the BC interior for 30 years and it can happen but it’s pretty rare to see this little snow on the ground,” says Lunquist. “I don’t remember many years in my career where you had such little snow.”

The good news is that snow is on the way on Boxing Day for Prince George as a few centimetres are expected.

“We are hoping towards the end of Christmas Day into Boxing Day maybe just maybe you’ll get some snow,” says Lunquist.

Lunquist says for most of BC this year has been pretty normal, our region is just a rarity.

We are going through a La Nina winter which typically brings colder temperatures, not what you can find outside in Prince George right now.

In the long-term, Lundquist says he expects La Nina to come and affect our weather and bring arctic air into the Central Interior throughout February, although January will be much cooler than what we are seeing now.
