Koffer scores game-winner to vault Czech Republic to upset win over Russians
After Day 2 of the World Juniors filled with blowouts, Day 3 was the complete opposite.
It started in the opening game where Switzerland fell 4-1 to Finland. Despite the loss, the Swiss were competitive in the game and at one point even led the game in the first period.
The 2nd game on Sunday featured Team Canada coming off a 16-2 win over Germany and they were tested against Slovakia. Canada would get on the board in the first four minutes, but then it was a stalemate between the two clubs. Canada would get the all-important insurance marker with 3:35 left to double their lead. Slovakia would get a late goal on the power play to get to within 1, but that was as close as they would come and Canada would earn the 3-1 win and improve to 2-0.
The late game of Day 3 of the tournament pitted Prince George Cougars forward Filip Koffer and the Czech Republic against their arch-rivals from Russia. The Czechs would shut down the high powered offence of the Russians and late in the 2nd period they would take the lead thanks to Koffer.
