WATCH: Case closed on flying object seen north of Prince George

.PRINCE GEORGE – If you were looking into the sky on Saturday night north of Prince George you may have seen something on fire flash across the sky.

Initial thoughts were that it was an aircraft, or something extra-terrestrial, although as it turns out it was something you’re probably familiar with.

Blair Stundler, National Committee Representative for the Prince George Astronomical Society says it’s not likely a U.F.O

“Looking at cloud cover and visibility issues, what they saw was probably less than a kilometre away and I suspect someone probably had some fireworks that happened to go up and didn’t go off with a bang,” says Stundler

Stundler says likely what is on fire is the paper remnants of the casing burning as the firework plummets below the treeline.

A meteor or comet would have been flying through the sky considerably faster than what is seen in the video, as those travel in excess of 1000 km/h.

All signs point to the object being a firework.
