VICTORIA — The COVID-19 pandemic shows no signs of slowing down in British Columbia.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says there were 2,211 new cases over the long weekend, including 169 in Northern Health.

Here’s the regional breakdown:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 389
  • Fraser Health: 1301
  • Vancouver Island Health: 64
  • Interior Health: 288
  • Northern Health: 169

Henry says 54,201 people have tested positive for the virus since the pandemic began. Of those cases, 45,229 people, or 83.4 per cent, have recovered.

She says 351 people are currently hospitalized – 76 of whom are in critical care or intensive care. There are 6,823 active cases of the virus province-wide.

Sadly 45 more people have died, bringing the provincial death toll to 946.

Henry adds the province hopes to immunize 150,000 people in B.C. by the end of February. Mass vaccinations are expected to start in late March or early April.

As of today, she says a total of 27,348 people have been vaccinated so far. That’s about half of the available vaccine in the province.
