PG pair launch Naramata board game showcasing BC Wine

PRINCE GEORGE – This is no Monopoly, or Prince George-opoly, but it is a brand new board game created by two PG men that shines a light on BC’s wine country.

Norm Coyne says he never planned to help create a board game, although when the opportunity presented itself, he couldn’t say no.

Coyne and his friend Chris Dias took a trip to BC’s Wine Country in the summer of 2019 and while documenting the trip came up with the idea to turn the tour into a board game.

“Who doesn’t love drinking and board games,” says Coyne.

The game is called “Naramata’ and showcases BC’s wine country and many wineries in the game as what the creators call ‘easter eggs.’

The planning for the game began well over a year ago, long before the COVID-19 pandemic was in sight, but the game couldn’t have been released at a better time.

Great White Toys says during the Christmas shopping season, board games were hot items as people look for things to do withing their bubbles.

Coyne says Thursday marks the official launch for pre-ordering the game, which has already attracted a lot of attention online through a Kickstarter campaign.

The game raised over $27 thousand to get the pieces of the game into production, attracting attention from people across the world as people have already been in contact to pre-order the game to Germany.

The release of the game comes as the tourism industry continues to grapple from travel restrictions and border closures, Coyne hoping this game can provide some positive awareness for when things can open back up once again.

Coyne is better known for his involvement of Northern FanCon, and the northern cinema industry, says he hopes this is the first of many board games that can be made here in Prince George.
