VANDERHOOF – An ice jam has formed on the Nechako River. Not typical. Water levels are higher than usual and Mayor Gerry Thiessen says there is a lot of water flowing right now. He says water levels are more than three times what they normally are, the Nautley River is running well over normally and snowpack levels are as much as 120% of normal.

For Derryck Young, who lives on Campbell Road west of the community had to rush his young family out of the house after midnight on Sunday morning as a sudden rush of water surrounded his house.

Meanwhile, half a foot of water covers the floor in his basement of his neighbour Frank Read’s house. A pump works hard to get the water out. He suspects there is $80,000 damage to his property.
