Blue Monday very different this year

“It’s always the shocker when you open your credit card bill after your Christmas spending and your gifts.”

That’s how Angela Crowe with Raymond James describes Blue Monday, which is today.

The fun and festivities on the holidays have worn off and the bills are coming in.

But COVID put the pinch on everyone’s plans this holiday season. For example, there weren’t the Christmas parties and social gatherings.

“This year I’m seeing a lot of people who cleaned up their debt. quite a bit. Or the money they would have allocated to travel this year didn’t happen this year,” says Crowe.

But there still is the blues at this time of year.

“But cabin fever is so much deeper this year because many of us have been on lockdown in [last] March,” says Maureen Davis with the Canadian Mental Health Association.

But, she says there is a light at the end of the tunnel with the vaccine.
