PRINCE GEORGE – It was a very successful city-wide food drive held on Saturday in Prince George as over 4,000 pounds of food was donated and over $10,000 in cash was raised.

Those totals alone will help the food bank along for two months, as the Salvation Army says they feed upwards of 3,000 mouths a month.

“It feels great to have the community behind us,” says Roy Law Community Ministries Director for the Salvation Army in Prince George

Law says Prince George always steps up in big food drive events like this one as donations continue to come in even during unique times like these we are all living in.

Events like the food drive don’t happen without community support to get them started either says one of the organizers Dave Mothus.

“I just really have to say a huge thank you to Wood Wheaton for stepping up and providing us with trucks and with their staff who were all such a big help throughout the day,” says Mothus.

The event also had four raffles set up at each of the local Save-On-Foods locations to aid the fundraising efforts.

Two of the prizes won were immediately given back to the Salvation Army, something they say was unbelievable.

The food bank says they haven’t seen a drastic uptick in users since the start of the pandemic compared to other food banks across the country.

Nonetheless, they say those who need the service has changed slightly as new faces continue to show up every week, a need this food drive will help fill at least for the time being.
