Parkade still on Council’s radar

PRINCE GEORGE – While the history and the financial break down of the George Street parkade project were made a bit clearer at the last Council meeting, the public outcry has been loud and clear. It’s a sentiment Councillor Kyle Sampson gets.

“That’s the feeling of a lot of our taxpayers, a lot of our residents. I’m not angry at those people. In fact, I understand those people. I’m also a resident, I’m also a taxpayer,” he says, when asked about the comments on social media. “There’s definitely not anger towards people who feeling that way, it’s anger for the whole situation.”

He assures work is underway among Mayor and Council to get to the bottom of what happened with that project. But Councilor Cori Ramsey says any investigation needs to be done in a thoughtful manner.

“I think it’s really important to get all of the answers before we make any decisions. This is going to have a great impact on our city so I just want to make sure we get to the bottom before we make any decisions. I know the public really wants answers now but this is going to take a little bit of time I just ask everyone to be patient with us.”

However, Sampson personally would like to see a third party get involved.

“I think it would be crazy not to look any further to make sure we have all the facts on these things that happened recently. And we will. That’s going to take an internal, external audit, really digging deep into that.”

A closed meeting of council took place this weekend and more are set for this week.
