Hydro expects power to be restored by Wednesday night

PRINCE GEORGE – BC Hydro crews have been working non-stop since a wind storm knocked out power for thousands on Tuesday.

Since then they have restored over 95% of power to customers in Prince George and surrounding regions like Burns Lake, Fort St. James, and Vanderhoof.

Northern BC Community Relations Manager Bob Gammer says crews have been working around the clock to make sure all outages have been resolved by Wednesday evening.

The winds that caused the storm were over 65 km/h at their peak with the Prince George Airport reporting a gust of over 90 km/h at one point.

Most of Prince George was restored by Wednesday morning although pockets of outages remained throughout the day which affected roughly 500 customers around noon.

According to the BC Hydro website, many of the outages were caused by trees on power lines, many smaller outages led to the big number instead of one incident causing a mass power outage.

BC Hydro declared a Regional Alert on Tuesday afternoon warning many who had lost power that it may remain throughout the night.

No word on the amount of damage caused.
