PRINCE GEORGE — A Prince George woman who suffered a broken leg while out on a hike near Fort St James last weekend has made the best out of a difficult situation.

Shannon Keeping was out hiking with a group of nine people last Sunday at Mount Pope near Fort St. James.

While there, she fell, breaking her leg and dislocating her ankle. Due to the icy conditions, she says it took Fort St. James Search and Rescue a couple of hours to reach her.

But now that she’s home, she and others are doing their part to quicken response times for others who may need help in the future.

“One of the biggest things that stood out for a lot of my friends there was that the search and rescue team in Fort St. James, they didn’t have good cleats, so they were really worried about dragging me down the hill.

“So what my friends did was worked with Atmosphere and they are donating cleats for the search and rescue team in Fort St. James.”
