No seed shortage – Yet

PRINCE GEORGE – This is the time of year many green thumbs are looking over catalogs or cruising the aisle at their local garden store for seeds.

Last spring vegetable seed sellers saw a demand for their product. During this quarantine, some grew their own food as there was a concern over food shortages, while others took up the hobby of gardening to help pass time during the isolation.

In the upcoming growing season, some gardeners and seed sellers are plotting on how to prepare for the next surge in seed demand.

Jos Van Hage, owner of Art Knapps says he expects another spike in sales as many acquired a green thumb during this pandemic last spring.

According to Van Hage, there is no seed shortage as of yet. If gardeners do run into shortage there are always many other varieties of seeds people can try.

Seed supply companies anticipate demand this spring. The local nonprofit David Douglas Botanical Society is planning their annual seed swap online for those looking to grow locally developed seeds.
