VICTORIA — Thirty-two new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region, 485 provincially.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and British Columbia Health Minister Adrian Dix say there are 4,299 active cases of the virus, 303 people are hospitalized, 74 of whom are in intensive care.

Here’s the regional breakdown of COVID-19 cases:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 115
  • Fraser Health: 210
  • Island Health: 45
  • Interior Health: 83
  • Northern Health: 32

A total of 65,719 people have been diagnosed with the virus since the pandemic began and 58,778 people have recovered.

Sadly, four new COVID related deaths, bringing the provincial death toll to 1,172.

To date, 124,365 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., 4,160 of which are second doses.

Dix and Henry say it was one year ago today that the first case of the virus was confirmed in our province.

They thank people who have stepped up to help prevent the spread of the virus but say it’s too early to stop being vigilant.

“When we are tired, it is easy to let things slip and let our guard down. Yet this only gives the virus a chance to spread a bit more. In these days – when COVID-19 vaccinations are starting, but for most of us are still weeks or months away – the actions we take may seem small, but will have a big impact to stop the virus in its tracks.

“If you are in the grocery store, follow the pathways and arrows and be sure to give people space at the check-out. If you are going to work or school, remember to wash your hands often throughout the day and wear your mask.”
