Prince George’s Kyle McKee pushing for leadership role with TRU Wolfpack volleyball

PRINCE GEORGE – In just his second year at Thompson River University, Kyle McKee is looking to step into a bigger role as a member of the Wolfpack’s volleyball team.

The six-foot-eight middle for the Wolfpack is taking it upon himself to become a leader on a team that has a number of players potentially on the way out due to graduation later this year.

“I’m just wanting to show that I’m ready to be one of the leaders on my team,” explained McKee. “We only have about half of our guys returning, the other have are new guys. I’ve already stepped into one of those leadership roles even though I’m fairly new myself.”

And it’s a big commitment by McKee, admitting he’s making the most of the time he has with his older teammates still but also working to build up the team chemistry.

“It’s really more just self-recognition. the team, right now, the morale is low, we don’t have a lot of chemistry, so somebody has to take that step. Myself and a lot of the other second-year guys have realized this is the time to step up.”

In a year where Canada West is not holding competitive play, the team has been focusing on skill development, much like many other university sports teams across Canada.
