Mealshare and A&W Canada team up

Feb 3, 2021 | 4:50 PM

A & W Canada and Mealshare BC have teamed up as of February 1st, which means more meals for children and youth across Canada. Five A & W’s in Prince George are participating.

Created in 2013, Mealshare is part of a national social enterprise whose main goal is to end youth hunger.

Lauren Hennessy, who is the community leader coach with Mealshare BC says the partnership with A&W Canada has allowed them to extend that helping hand.

” This partnership obviously has allowed us to obviously expand into tons of small communities in BC but obviously small communities all across Canada. So, very exciting for us to now have that presence, there are like 1000 new a&w’s and I think now, we’ve added 450 new communities. So super exciting for us”

So, this is how it works.. on Monday’s head to any of the five participating A&W’S in town, order an uncle cheddar bacon combo, when you do this, one meal will be sent to a youth in need. Sort of a 2 for 1 deal… if you miss a Monday, no worries you can still take part just say ” make it a meal share” and one dollar will be added to your bill… simple as that.

Tom Newitt, who is the Vice President of Marketing for A & W says they have been seeing an increase and problem with food insecurities and wanted to do their part.

” The franchises the people who own restaurants across Canada are very, they have a long history of being involved in the communities and finding ways that they can help out. And meal share was a really good fit for us on both levels.”

” we’ll be working with Breakfast Club and they’ll be doing there, I mean doing the great work that breakfast clubs does, providing those meals to youth and children just in those local communities at the school” ~ Lauren Hennessey
