PRINCE GEORGE — One man is facing multiple charges following an alleged robbery at the Shoppers Drug Mart at Pine Centre Mall.

RCMP Cst. Jennifer Cooper says police received a report of a robbery at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, Feb.2.

“Witnesses stated to police that a male and a female left the business with a basket full of items. When a security guard confronted the male suspect, he brandished a hatchet at the security guard and then left the area with the female, crossing Highway 97 and leaving the shopping complex.”

She says within 10 minutes of receiving the report, police had the male suspect in custody. Two minutes after that, the female was also apprehended.

“Prince George RCMP’s Police Dog Service team attended to assist in backtracking where the male suspect traveled and quickly located the discarded hatchet used in the robbery.”

Cooper says police are recommending charges of robbery and resisting arrest for the male. The suspect was also breaching two of his court ordered conditions. The female was released without charges.
