Extreme cold warning issued for PG and Northern BC

Feb 7, 2021 | 8:38 PM

PRINCE GEORGE – Environment Canada has officially declared an extreme cold warning for Prince George and much of Northern BC.

Temperatures are expected to plummet Sunday overnight into Monday with wind chill values making the temperature feel well below minus 30.

Environment Canada says arctic air will remain over the area through most of the week.

Overnight lows combined with occasional light winds will be enough to produce extreme cold wind chill values of near minus 40 to minus 45.

The cold temperatures come with a friendly reminder to bundle up if you’re headed outdoors as a risk of frostbite is possible.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.

Temperatures are forecasted to return to normal over the next 10 days.

There is a chance our cold temperatures could break records on Monday and Tuesday in Prince George.
