PRINCE GEORGE — Local Mounties are reminding firearm owners to lock up their firearms in a secure place.

Prince George RCMP Cst. Jennifer Cooper suggests that safe place be a safe. She also asks firearm owners when at the gun range or when talking online, not to mention where your firearms are stored.

“Easily accessed firearms are a high priority target for many thieves. When transferring ownership of a restricted or prohibited firearm, make sure you are contacting the Canadian Firearms Program at 1-800-731-4000 for the proper process. Illegally obtaining firearms from outside of Canada is only one of the ways criminals obtain these weapons.”

She says the RCMP seizure of BB Guns that looked like loaded revolvers on Jan. 15 at a home on the 1400 block of Milburn Avenue following the execution of a search warrant is a reminder to the public that to police, the BB guns looked like real guns and should be treated with the same care.
