Prince George will see warmer weather next week

PRINCE GEORGE – As many already know, this cold snap hasn’t been very fun. However, it looks like we will see some relief later in the week.

Even with the extremely cold temperatures, we did see some sunshine but let that sun fool you, it hasn’t really done much for us in terms of warming things up. Bobby Sekhon, the Warning Preparedness Meteorologist for Environment Canada, says change is coming.

“We’ve had extreme cold warnings here in Prince George and the Northern Part of B.C for the better part of this week. And we’ve seen temperatures dip below -30, which has been very cold, and then with that windchill, we have seen wind chills in the – 40 to -45 range.”

And that’s exactly where temperatures dropped for us, overnight in the city. Not really typical for this time of year… but it’s been known to happen, we do still live in the North.

” Prince George sees about four days below – 30, so where that four days comes, usually varies between December, January, and February, last year we had the cold arctic outbreak in January, the year before that February, and then, of course, this year… February after a fairly mild January.”

However, there is light at the end of this frozen, cold, slippery tunnel, it will be slow but averages temperatures shall return to us next week.

” This weekend we will see the transition from this bitter cold to less cold and even getting close to average by the early part of next week. It will be a slow transition like you said but by Tuesday we are hoping to return to average temperatures, for this time of year. ”

According to Sekhon, we could see some flurries but it looks like we will return to average temperatures next week.
