114 new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health over the weekend

VICTORIA — British Columbia’s provincial government has announced they were 1,478 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend.

Here’s the regional breakdown:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 327
  • Fraser Health: 857
  • Island Health: 88
  • Interior Health: 92
  • Northern Health: 114

That brings the total number of cases in B.C. since the pandemic began to 80,672, 74,776 of those people have recovered.

“There are 4,464 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, with 8,210 people under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases,” says Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and B.C.’s Health Minister Adrian Dix.

“Of the active cases, 236 individuals are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 65 of whom are are in intensive care.”

There have also been 42 confirmed COVID-19 cases that are variants of concern, for a total of 158 cases. Of those, 10 are active while the remaining people have recovered. This includes 137 cases of the U.K. variant and 21 cases of the South Africa variant.

To date, Henry and Dix say 275,681 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., 83,777 of which are second doses

Sadly, there have been eight new COVID-19 related deaths in B.C. bringing B.C.’s death toll to 1,363.

There are now 303 active cases of the virus in northern B.C., 29 people are in hospital, 13 of whom are in critical care. No new deaths with the death toll in northern B.C. remaining at 106.
