BC moves into phase 2 of COVID-19 vaccine rollout

Mar 1, 2021 | 11:09 AM

PRINCE GEORGE – BC Health Officials and BC Premier John Horgan announced the province will be moving into phase 2 of the vaccine rollout as of Monday morning.

The next phase will see roughly 400,000 British Columbians get vaccinated.

That includes:

  • seniors and high-risk people residing in independent living and seniors’ supportive housing (including staff);
  • home-care support clients and staff
  • Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) peoples born in or before 1956 (65 years and older)
  • seniors born in or before 1941 (80 years and older)

The main way to register to get your vaccine will be mainly by phone, but officials ask that you please do not call until your age group becomes eligible.

Once your age group is eligible, you will call a designated call centre for your designated health authority.

Here are the dates for specific age groups, and when that age group can call into the call centre.

  • March 8, 2021: Seniors born in or before 1931 (90 years+) and Indigenous people born in or before 1956 (65 years+)
  • March 15, 2021: Seniors born in or before 1936 (85 years+)
  • March 22, 2021: Seniors born in or before 1941 (80 years+)

The phone number where you can call when you become eligible will be released by health authorities as soon as Monday afternoon.

Important to note, there have been some phishing attempts already made to gather personal information, BC Health Officials say call centres will never ask for banking information or your SIN number.

“This immunization process is a massive undertaking and I thank the regional health authorities, the thousands of health-care workers and medical staff, our colleagues in the Ministry of Health and the many community partners who help us to deliver care and who have been working tirelessly throughout this pandemic for their dedication and support,” said Dr. Penny Ballem, executive lead for B.C.’s immunization plan.
