438 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., 17 in northern B.C.

VICTORIA — Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 438 new cases of COVID-19 in British Columbia today.

Here’s the regional breakdown:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 137
  • Fraser Health: 249
  • Island Health: 19
  • Interior Health: 16
  • Northern Health: 17

Since the pandemic began, 81,367 people have been diagnosed with the virus, 75,255 of which have recovered.

Henry says there are 4,679 active cases in B.C., 243 people are hospitalized, 63 of whom are in critical or intensive care.

Sadly there have been two more deaths bringing B.C.’s death toll to 1,365.

Henry says 22 new cases of COVID-19 variants have been discovered bringing the total in B.C. to 182, though only eight are active. Of those variants, 159 are the UK variant, 23 the South African variant. She say the majority of the variants have been discovered in the Lower Mainland.

To date, 283,182 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C., 86,537 of which are second doses.

Following a data correction, Henry also announced there were an additional 254 cases of the virus over the past week in B.C. ending yesterday.
