46 new cases of COVID-19 in Northern Health

VICTORIA — Another 564 new cases of COVID-19 in British Columbia.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry provided the following breakdown by region:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 168
  • Fraser Health: 279
  • Island Health: 35
  • Interior Health: 36
  • Northern Health: 46

She says there are 4,743 active cases of the virus with 248 people in hospital, 63 of whom are in critical or intensive care.

Since the pandemic began, 82,473 people have been diagnosed with the virus, 76,289 of which have recovered.

Henry says four more people have died, bringing the province’s death toll to 1,376.

She says 46 more COVID variants of concern have been identified bringing the total number of variant cases to 246. Sixteen of these cases are active. Of the 246 variant cases, 218 have been identified as UK variants and 28 as South African variants.

Henry says none of those variants have been identified in the Northern Health region.

Here’s the regional breakdown of COVID-19 variant cases:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 60
  • Fraser Health: 178
  • Island Health: 6
  • Interior Health: 2
  • Northern Health: 0

Henry says two people have died due to COVID-19 variants and four people are hospitalized due to COVID-19 variants.

To date, 298,851 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered, 86,746 of which are second doses.
