PRINCE GEORGE — Local Mounties are seeking the public’s help in locating a taxi thief.

RCMP say the theft occurred shortly before 5 a.m. on Feb.23 outside a home on the 3600 block of Romanin Place.

“The driver of the taxi stated he started the taxi to warm it up and left the keys inside the running vehicle. When he returned 15 minutes later, the vehicle was gone,” says Cst. Jennifer Cooper.

She says officers located the taxi about 25 minutes later, parked and unoccupied. Police obtained surveillance from inside the taxi and are looking for any information on the suspect.

“Once again, police are reminding the public that it is not safe to leave your running vehicle, with the keys inside, unoccupied for any length of time. It takes mere seconds for thieves to take your vehicle in these circumstances,” adds Cooper.

If you have any information you’re asked to call the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1(800)222-8477.
