PRINCE GEORGE – For Caleb Reimer, his passion for physical activity and being in shape is not new.

When his Ironman Marathon last summer was cancelled because of COVID-19, he was crushed.

But he did it anyway, here in Prince George.

Even though the competition and experience was completely different.

Starting Friday at 8 p.m., Caleb will begin another long physical journey along with many others as part of a David Goggins challenge to run 78 km in 48 hours.

The challenge is called the 4-4-48 challenge, four miles in four hours, for 48 hours.

From the beginning Caleb’s pledge was to do an extra leg of the journey if he met his fundraising goals, raising money for both the Canadian Mental Health Association, and the Boost Children and Youth Advocacy Centre.

He met his fundraising goal of $250 to each cause, so now he will run 84 km!

Both causes Caleb holds very close to his heart.

“It’s a big deal having family members bipolar to schizophrenia, and really close friends as well.” says Reimer.” As well as COVID having such a big effect on everybody’s mental health.”

And the second cause as well, Reimer determined to support the fight against child abuse, and break the stigma after being a victim himself.

“It’s such an important cause for me being a man, and being sexually abused as a child,” says Reimer.

The 28-year-old has been training extensively to make sure he’s not only mentally up for the challenge but also physically.

“I’ve been running between 14 and 20 kilometres a day for the last six weeks or so,” says Reimer.

Caleb says he encourages those who want to come and join in for a leg of the journey to do so over the weekend. You can find him running around Moore’s Meadow until he wraps up his journey on Sunday.
