PRINCE GEORGE — A slight loosening of COVID-19 restrictions in British Columbia.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announcing today that it will now allow outdoor gatherings in groups up to 10 people.

Henry also announced alcohol sales on St. Patrick’s Day (Mar.17) will also be halted at 8 p.m.

This as B.C. recorded 569 new cases of COVID-19, 60 in the Northern Health region.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says that brings the total number of test positive cases in B.C. since the pandemic began to 86,219, 79,829 of those people, or 92.6 per cent, have recovered.

Here’s the regional breakdown when it comes to the new cases of the virus:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 140
  • Fraser Health: 301
  • Island Health: 41
  • Interior Health: 26
  • Northern Health: 60

Henry says there are 4,912 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., 244 people are in hospital, 68 of whom are in critical or intensive care.

Sadly, there have been three new deaths bringing B.C.’s death toll to 1,397.

To date, 366,791 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., 87,009 of which are second doses.

Henry also released some epidemiological modelling which showed COVID-19 was the 8th most likely cause of death in BC in 2020.

Other modelling showed that a number of people in their thirties have died due to COVID-19. In addition to that, the modelling shows that transmission of the virus is only happening at indoor work places.
