PRINCE GEORGE – A recent survey conducted of Canadian municipalities in terms of “livability” places Prince George at 125 of 150 communities. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing, according to the head of the City Economic Development branch. “In Canada, there are over five thousand municipalities,” explains Melissa Barcellos. “Making the list and making the cut to be included on that list at 125 says a lot for Prince George. We’re on the map. People recognize this as a place that they’d like to live.”

The factors taken into consideration were smaller lifestyle amenities, like scenery, access to the outdoors, nightlife, while other larger factors were economic and job growth (12%) and affordability (33%), and affordability is something Prince George can brag about.

“I think we’re a bit ahead of the curve because we’ve recognized this potential and we’ve recognized the demand in those larger centres. And we’re working to attract people from there to re-locate to our community.”

Unfortunately, Barcellos says the locals are not so quick to toot their own horn where are out and about in other communities.
