556 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., 41 in Northern Health

VICTORIA — Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has announced 556 new cases of COVID-19 in British Columbia, including 14 epi-linked cases, for a total of 88,929 in B.C. Of those, 82,436 people have recovered.

Here’s the regional breakdown:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 139
  • Fraser Health: 331
  • Island Health: 27
  • Interior Health: 16
  • Northern Health: 41

Henry says there are now 4,999 active cases of the virus in B.C., with 9,511 people under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases.

Of the active cases, she says 280 people are in hospital, 84 of whom are in intensive care.

She says there have been 116 new confirmed COVID-19 cases that are variants of concern, for a total of 996 cases. Of the total cases, 130 cases are active and the remaining people have recovered. This includes 921 cases of the U.K. variant, 41 cases of the South Africa variant and 34 cases of the Brazil variant.

To date, 424,517 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C., 87,070 of which are second doses.

There have been no new deaths leaving the death toll due to COVID-19 in B.C. at 1,407.
