PRINCE GEORGE – It was a setting filled with nervousness, excitement, and gratitude for many seniors who got their COVID-19 vaccines on the opening day of vaccinations at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre.

The clinic was moving along at a quick pace on opening day with little to no wait times during their operating hours of 10:30 am to 5:30 pm according to those who had appointments scheduled.

The clinic downtown can vaccinate up to 200 people a day as it’s currently set up, with expansion possible.

The clinic opens here in Prince George as the entire community of Prince Rupert gets their shots over the next week.

The clinic in our city was filled with plenty of stories from seniors who have had their lives flipped upside down by the pandemic, separated from family, and unable to visit their friends.

“I am just so grateful today,” said Irene Warren, who has a compromised immune system after a battle with breast cancer.

Irene and her husband Doug were both able to get their vaccine Tuesday at the Conference and Civic Centre, both hopeful for better days in the near future.

Although it was a step closer to normal for many seniors, they will still need to abide by all the public health restrictions the general public does.

BC is currently in Phase 2 of its Immunization rollout, with Phase 3 set to dramatically ramp up vaccination efforts, starting in early April or sooner.
