TAKLA LANDING — A big honour for a member of the Takla Landing community.

Shane West has been officially commended for his bravery by assisting RCMP members in the arrest of an armed individual on Jan.29, 2019 at Takla Landing.

West assisted members of the Takla RCMP detachment who responded to a call for assistance near a school where a male was discharging a rifle. Upon arrival, officers attempted to contact the male, commanding that he put the firearm down. Commands were ignored, and in turn, the individual requested that police shoot him.

West slowly approached the individual, eventually convincing him to put the rifle down. Once the individual complied with the direction, West separated him from the firearm. Once the male was securely away from the firearm, RCMP members arrested the individual without incident.

“Mr.West’s courage in assisting our members in the apprehension of an armed individual aided in bringing this situation to a successful conclusion. His actions and dedication to duty bring credit to himself and are in keeping with the highest standards of a Canadian citizen,” said RCMP Deputy Commissioner Jennifer Strachan.
