Singing a different tune for St.Paddy’s Day

Mar 17, 2021 | 4:48 PM

Prince George – March 17 is marked as St. Paddy’s Day, however, things are looking a little different when it comes to celebrations this year. CKPG News spoke to some businesses around Prince George who have had to adapt to the amended restrictions due to Covid.

For those who want to still venture out, you can but the last call will be much earlier than years past.

“We have consulted with the food and beverage industry and had a number of conversations and they as well are committed to keeping our communities safe” Flash ” and in the spirit of that, my existing order for food and liquor establishments will be amended, so that liquor sales for onsite and off-site consumption must sess between 8 p.m. on March 17 until 9 a.m. on March 18,”says Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry

So, what does this mean for local restaurants and pubs around town? Troy McKenzie who owns the Black Clover says, it’s a little disappointing but they are happy to even be open.

“I think we’ve learned to expect the unexpected, so it doesn’t change much of anything else, obviously we have to follow all the existing protocol so it just took 2 hours away of revenue which is like I said, disappointing but it’s not the worst thing in the world, it’s much better than last year when we were completely shut down. So I am pretty happy to be open, so I guess we will take the good and deal with the bad.”

McKenzie says, it was nice that the PHO gave them a better heads up, than they did for New Year’s eve.

“For sure it was nice that they gave a few days extra but I mean, I had 19 kegs roll in, the day before with order dates and things like that. I know that they don’t necessarily consider that but it’s still things that are out of our control and we just do our best to go back and control.”

McKenzie says; it will be Covid business as usual.

“Just really making people understand they need to keep their butts in the seats and maintain social distance and if you get up.. mask. So, we will have enough people there to keep people informed of the rules and make sure they abide.”

Liquor sales will end at 8 p.m. across the province and for the Black Clover, they will stay open until 9 p.m. with a full menu available after the liquor is cut off.
