PRINCE GEORGE – With production now wrapped up from ‘A Great North Christmas’, there are plenty of legacies left behind for future films to build on.

It was the first major feature film shot in Prince George and surrounding areas in over a decade.

Producer of the movie Norm Coyne says it was the community coming together which made the feature film such a success.

“This film was basically an incubator for Prince George,” says Coyne. “It was so inspiring to see the support we got from local businesses, and to see the dedication from people who put their time in to help.”

The film won’t be ready for the next couple of months, but when it is there will be plenty of local flavour showcased.

The script was actually re-written to include a chainsaw carving from local 19-year-old Isabel Stratton, in lieu of the originally planned ice carving.

There will also be plenty of local businesses showcased as well as Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park, where a marketplace scene was filmed.

Perhaps best of all, Prince George will not be a Montana, Washington, or Colorado, it will be portrayed as the real thing.

And although there will plenty to watch for on-screen, there was plenty of local support for the movie behind the scenes.

Westwood Pub did craft and catering for the production, something Owner, Nathan Coole says he’s never done before, and never really had the opportunity to do.

“At first we weren’t really sure what we were getting into,” says Coole. “But seeing that crew work so hard, it inspired us to work harder even though we were tired.”

Another endeavour the film has inspired is a running list of possible filming locations for the city and the region, to submit one of your own you can email info@barkerstreetcinema.com
