1,785 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., 133 in Northern Health

VICTORIA — Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry announced 1,785 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend in B.C.

She said 556 new cases were identified from Friday to Saturday, 598 from Saturday to Sunday and 631 from Sunday to today.

Here’s the regional breakdown:

  • Vancouver Coastal Health: 469
  • Fraser Health: 1,010
  • Island Health: 89
  • Interior Health: 84
  • Northern Health: 133

One hundred and sixty-six of these new cases are variants of concern bringing the total in B.C. to 1,366. The majority, 1,240, are the U.K. variant. Five variant cases have now been identified in northern B.C.

There are 5,290 active cases of the virus, 303 people are currently hospitalized, 80 of whom are in critical or intensive care.

A total of 539,408 first doses of COVID-19 have now been administered in B.C.

Sadly there have been 16 reported deaths bringing B.C.’s death toll to 1,437.
