PRINCE GEORGE – “I don’t know how either,” said Martin Williamson, 17, in response to disbelief of managing to complete 24 straight hours of skiing.

Williamson, along with 18-year-old Tyson Green and 16-year-old Josh Fiala, set out to complete 24 hours of skiing out at the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club to raise money for the Club’s Ski School.

“It’s almost up the $8-thousand now,” said Williamson. “(Those dollars) are going towards the Ski School program out at Caledonia. It’s going to support school groups that might not otherwise be able to come out to the Club.”

Williamson said a lot of logistics and nutrition planning went into the preparation for the event. He also admitted there was a lot of mental preparation, adding he was nervous leading up to the ski.

The trio started their ski at noon on Saturday (March 27th) and skied through until noon on Sunday.

The fundraiser is the Capstone project for Williamson and Green, who both attend Duchess Park Secondary in Prince George.

After nearly 13 hours of sleeping since wrapping up his ski, Williamson admits he’s already thinking about the next big event he and Green could do.

“Tyson and I are both on the same p[age, We don’t know if we want to ski another 24 hours, because that was pretty darn hard, but there are other challenges we may want to do,” Williamson said.
