PRINCE GEORGE – The recent public health orders have once again hit businesses like restaurants, cafes and breweries, hard.

The demand has forced one local cafe owner to ask the city to move its indoor business operations to the sidewalk and street.

The Makerie is one of the newest downtown coffee shops. Kim Hayhurst opened her shop up last year. Since then, she has been adapting to the new health orders.

Typically Makerie customers gather inside the shop, drink coffee and work on crafts. However, the new order has prompted her to move some of her tables onto the sidewalk.

However businesses thinking of setting up in a public space must apply for a temporary occupancy license from the city.

The City of Prince George understands these are challenging times for local business owners and will try to expedite the application process.
