‘I see miracles on a daily basis’: Meet the faces of Olive’s Branch

PRINCE GEORGE – On Wednesday we introduced you to Olive’s Branch, a centre on the edge of downtown providing a safe space for individuals to be re-integrated back into society.

Inside the walls of Olive’s Branch are miracles, for some they are hourly, for others they happen seemingly daily.

There are on average about 20 people getting a chance here, and often hitting the reset button on their lives, for Mike White it’s been exactly that.

A life fuelled by addiction and crime in his past, is now something in the rearview mirror, as he heads on the path to a new life.

“I even thought I might’ve been dead if it wasn’t for this place,” says White, who is approaching his fifth month at the facility.

And then there’s Mark DeSauza, he brought his mug shots to show us how far he has come from where he was not too long ago.

DeSauza says Olive’s Branch taking him in was one of the best things that has ever happened to him.

He is on his second year at the centre, as he transitions into the workforce, staff say he’s the prime example of how people can change if they are given the right tools to do it.

But there’s also Patricia, a mother who lost custody to her son, who is now trying everything she can to get back into a life where she can be involved in some capacity.

Olive’s Branch is a 28 room transformed motel on the edge of the downtown core, set to provide many more miracles in the near future.

The facility is now thriving according to those who live and work there, a safe and welcoming space for those who need it.
