Vanderhoof Airport has a new tenant

VANDERHOOF – The Vanderhoof Airport has a new tenant, which is welcome news. One of the bigger hangars at the airport recently became vacant.

“It has been acquired by the Province of BC for the Fire Protection Department. [The hangar] is now the regional firebase which is an excellent thing to have at the Vanderhoof Airport,” says Paul Collard, President of the Vanderhoof Airport Development Society.

The old site for BC Wildfire folks was at the top of the hill, where the Ministry of Forests offices are located. A site at the airport makes a great deal more sense. However, the additional people and equipment is a cause of concern for the Society.

“We are a bit concerned because the sewage and water system at the airport won’t stand that. We have a well here. It’s a well from the 1940s. It’s a great well but there’s only a one-inch water line.”

He suspects the District of Vanderhoof will use the presence of the BC wildfire Service to apply for financial help to upgrade the infrastructure.
