PRINCE GEORGE – As Derek Chauvin is convicted south of the border, Regional Chief Terry Teegee says he is pleased with the verdict but says this renews the call for reform in Canada.
The BC Assembly of First Nations (BCAFN) say Indigenous and other racialized people in Canada are all too familiar with police brutality and adverse outcomes in the judicial system.
Teegee says governments are willing to work for change, but it won’t happen overnight.
“An overhaul is the only pathway to achieving true justice for racialized people who can been by brutalized by the legal system,” stated Regional Chief Teegee.
